Dinosaur Egg Pattern Hunt: A Spring Coloring Game
Print one original spring dinosaur page and find three different egg patterns—stripes, dots, and zigzags—before coloring.
Three big eggs, three easy-to-name patterns, and one curious little dinosaur: this spring page is a quick way to practice noticing visual differences while coloring. The left egg has stripes, the middle egg has dots, and the right egg has zigzags.
This is not a lesson about real dinosaur eggs; the patterns are an imaginative game. The one free printable below is original BoysColor art and different from the optional dinosaur collection later in the article.
Play the pattern hunt
Invite the child to point before picking up a crayon. The goal is to find a pattern, describe it in their own words, and decide how to color it. If the eggs overlap on the page, use your finger to follow one outline at a time.
- Find the egg with long stripes.
- Find the egg made of round dots.
- Find the egg with zigzag lines.

The baby dinosaur peeks from behind the eggs. There are also flowers, grass, and a sun, but you can finish the three eggs first and save the rest for later.
- Use one color for all stripes, then try two colors on the dots.
- Invent a fourth pattern on the back of the page or on a spare sheet.

Ask your child: If the dinosaur could choose an egg, which pattern would it pick?
Add a second round without another printout
