A Space Coloring Adventure for Kids Ages 5–8

A rocket, two possible planets, and a place to land: three simple coloring pages become a story your child gets to tell.

A rocket launches, passes colorful planets, and lands on an imaginary world.

A coloring session can be more than three unrelated pictures. Here, each page answers one part of a small space adventure: What will we take? Where will we go? What will we find? Your child can color, add a little drawing, and tell the story aloud. No reading or writing is required to enjoy it.

The pages use large shapes and short prompts intended for many children around ages 5–8. You can simplify a prompt or help with the drawing if needed. All three sheets below are original BoysColor printables and free to download one at a time.

1. Get the rocket ready

Start at the launch pad. The two empty cargo boxes are for your child to decide what the crew needs. The choices can be practical, silly, or completely imaginary.

  1. Color the rocket so it is easy to spot in space.
  2. Draw one thing to pack in each empty box.
  3. Ask: “Why did you choose those two things?”

2. Choose a route through space

Now the rocket is on its way. This page has two made-up planets and plenty of open space between them and the rocket. There is no correct route to find.

  1. Give each planet a different color or pattern.
  2. Draw a line from the rocket to the planet your child wants to visit.
  3. Ask what made that planet the more interesting stop.

3. Land and invent the ending

The rocket has landed. The big open shape in the foreground is a place for your child to draw the most important discovery: a friendly creature, a strange object, or something no one has seen before.

  1. Color the new world. Does it feel warm, icy, or unlike Earth?
  2. Draw a discovery inside the empty shape.
  3. Tell the ending in one or two sentences. An adult can write the words down if the child wants.

Use one page or tell the whole story

Short on time? Any one page works by itself. For a longer activity, print all three and put them in order. Let your child supply the details; the goal is not to finish a perfect picture, but to make a mission that belongs to them.
